Wascana Solar Co-operative Ltd.
We began gathering community interest in a solar power co-op in February 2017.
We decided on the co-op model following on the success of the SES Solar Co-op and other solar / renewable energy co-ops already established in other provinces.
Our community of over 100 members has facilitated the installation of nearly 400 solar panels in just two years.
Independent power producers (IPPs)
IPPs play an important role in Saskatchewan right now and in the future.
IPPs are important to drive down the cost of renewable energy and shift financial and other risks away from the public (i.e. the people of Saskatchewan).
- To date, IPPs are responsible for generating 1,124 MW of power into the power system. That amounts to about 22% of the total capacity.
- SaskPower plans to add up to 3,000 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind generation to our power system by 2035. Independent power producers (IPP) are helping to make this happen.
- Many companies have experience building and operating wind and solar facilities. When SaskPower works with these companies, we’re able to use their expertise and secure a better price for you.
Utility-scale projects are more than 1Mw
