Creating Salt Batteries to Store Wind and Solar Power

Oct 6, 2025 | News

Geological consultant Brian Brunskill (P. Geo) will be presenting about creating salt batteries to store wind and solar power at the Build Green Saskatchwan conference Nov 13.

Since 1985, Brian has worked in the petroleum, potash and energy sectors, and is now using his knowledge to create energy solutions using Canada’s unique geological makeup.  Alongside explorations in geothermal heat and carbon storage, he also houses knowledge in the cutting-edge technology of Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES).

Join us as Brian walks us through how salt caverns in Saskatchewan could resolve our struggle with intermittent solar and wind power.  By diving into the successful history of CAES in Germany and the US, he will explain how Saskatchewan’s abundant solar and wind potential can be better harnessed using proven technology.

Let’s learn how reliable, low-carbon electricity is hidden right beneath our feet.
